Hmm, I'm going to be honest with you here. I was never a big Rolling Stones fan... I had always heard them on the radio or in commercials, or gosh damn everywhere you go you can hear a Stones song at one point. And the only things I really know are from jokes about Mick Jagger's lips, or Keith Richards' age. But I never bothered to GET into them. I mean, they're quite possibly the longest running rock act of all time, and one of the most successful ever, so they gotta be pretty damn good. Anyway, you might not know THIS album too well, but I tend to like to review things in chronological order as much as possible. So who knows, I'll more than likely become a fanatic halfway through completing this page. (Watch this space!)

Well, here we go! The first Rolling Stones album! The start of a huge legacy! And what a start this is... and what a catchy set of songs we have here. Even if most of these are covers, some are done well. You can tell right away (Hell, you can tell from the album TITLE) that these bros mean business. But what do we have here? I suppose everybody knows "Route 66", a classic song that by some is associated to the Stones (although it IS a cover)... and "Not Fade Away" and "I Just Want To Make Love To You" are pumping little RnB numbers, effective in their way, the Stones WANTED to make some sort of an impact here. The more Bluesy "Honest I Do" slows things down a bit, but that doesn't mean it's bad! I gotta love the harmonica... "Little By Little" is just plain fun that ol' Stones style, but what's up with jumping into these harmonica solos? Keep the catchiness going guys! Heck, they're ok, and this is fun! And hey, just because I'm reviewing this, doesn't mean I'm not allowed to have fun. Funness earns points. And oh my goodness... I didn't think this was going to get too dirty (Hey, this is 1964!) but "I'm A King Bee" is just raunchy raunchy raunchy! But what did you expect from these guys? Happy poppy music? Oh wait, what's that? "Tell me"? Ew, what are they trying to rip off the Beatles? Oops, I didn't mean that! It's good... It's 4 minutes long... What the hell, are they trying to do progressive rock? (That's a joke... but a 4 minute song is quite long for 1964 standards, but these guys don't give a shit about STANDARDS!) Actually, even in those 4 minutes it drags a little. Another highlight is a Chuck Berry cover "Carol", and it bops along at a fast pace... Anyway, it's a cover, and I don't want to get into it too much.

"Can I Get A Witness"/"Now I've Got A Witness" are a little too gospelly for me, but whatever. They can sit there and bop along. They're not offensive. Feel free to raise your hands and sing along. Likewise, I can't dig "You Can Make It If You Try". That's purely a matter of personal opinion though. It's just too boring, even at just 2 minutes. And "Walking The Dog" is like "I'm A King Bee" in its risqueness and danger... a good way to close an album with such a similar theme.
